The First Metro in Thailand

Being one of Bangkok's heavy mass rapid transit, the M.R.T. Chaloem Ratchamongkhon Line has become the first metro in Thailand because its initial system section of Hua Lamphong to Bang Sue is the first railway system in Thailand that kept on underground level.

The M.R.T. Chaloem Ratchamongkhon Line starts from Bangkok Railway Station (Hua Lamphong) along Rama 4 road, crosses Samyan intersection, Silom intersection and Wireless intersection, turns left to Ratchadaphisek Road at Rama 4 intersection, passing Queen Sirikit National Convention Center to Asoke-Sukhumvit intersection, Asoke-Phetchaburi intersection, Rama 9 intersection, Huai Khwang intersection, and Sutthisan intersection, then turns left to Lat Phrao road at Ratchada-Lat Phrao intersection, faces to Lat Phrao intersection, Phahon Yothin road, Chatuchak Park, Mo Chit Northern Bus Terminal (Old), and turns right to Kamphaeng Phet road, passing The Marketing Organization for Farmers (MOF) market, and finally ends at Bang Sue Railway Station.

Operating Hours & Frequency

  • 06.00 am -- midnight daily.
  • Less than 5 minutes during the peak hours 06.00 - 09.00 am. and 04.30 -- 07.30 pm.
  • Less than 10 minutes during the off-peak hours. Maximum 18 serviced rolling stocks and 1 reserved.

Fare Rate

From August 5, 2006 to July 2, 2008, BMCL reduce fare rate according to destinations as follows;

1. Stored Value Card
- Adult from 13 Baht to 33 Baht.
- Student from 10 Baht to 27 Baht.
- Child/Elfder from 8 Baht to 20 Baht.

2. Single Journey Token
- Adult from 15 Baht to 39 Baht.
- Child/Elfder from 8 Baht to 20 Baht.

Children (90cm. to 120 cm. tall) and Senior citizen (65 years or older) may use concession fare which is only issued at the Ticket Office.

Children shorter than 90 cm. will be exempted. Please carry your children while walking through the Automatic Gate.

Special Promotion: From July 3, 2006 to July 2, 2008, Senior citizen aged 60 years or older may use concession fare which is only issued at the Ticket Office.

Fare Rates Charts

Contactless Smart Card

Use across the card reader located on the top surface of automatic fare gate within 10 centimeters far apart . There are 2 kinds of Contactless Smart Card

1. Single Journey Token which has two types: Adult and Concession (Child/OAP)

  • Used for one journey (from station A to station B);
  • Valid for one defined trip and on the issuing date;
  • Distance-based full fare rate (except for Child/Elder will get concession fare rate).
  • In case ticket is expired, the token can be refunded at the Ticket Office during service hours (6 am-midnight daily)

    2. Stored Value Card - Adult, Concession (Child/OAP), Student & Business Traveller

  • Used for multi-journey travel;
  • Issued only at Ticket Office ;
  • Issuing fee of Baht 30;
  • For Adult, Student and Child/Elder, Initial Value of Baht 200 (Travel value of Baht 150 and Deposit of Baht 50);
  • For Business Traveller Card, Initial Value of Baht 100 (Travel value of Baht 100 with no deposit);
  • Topped up only at Ticket Office with value Baht 100, 200, 300, 400 or 500 which card's value cannot be more than Baht 1,000 also can be paid by both cash and credit card, at least Baht 300 per time for credit acceptance;
  • Distance-based fare rate;
  • Refundable (With condition for Business Traveller Card).

    2.1 Value non-addable - ONE DAY PASS, 3-DAY PASS & 30-DAY PASS

  • Used for multiple trips;
  • Issued only at Ticket Office;
  • Issuing fee of Baht 30;
  • Fix value up on card type: ONE DAY PASS costs Baht 120, 3-DAY PASS costs Baht 230 and 30-DAY PASS costs Baht 900 Can be paid by both cash and credit card, at least Baht 300 per time for credit acceptance;
  • Non refundable.
